Movie producers spend Billions of Dollars on casting the best actors, chasing the strongest scripts and creating the most visually aesthetic movies loaded with the latest technologies of CGI; however, sometimes despite the presence of all these elements, movies can still fail to make a place in the hearts of the audiences. Here are top five movies that proved to be the biggest box office flops of 2021:
1. The Matrix Resurrections:
In this movie, Keanu Reeves is back as Neo, who already knows what he has to do, but what he doesn’t yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before. The Matrix Resurrections only managed to score a 64% on the Tomato-Meter. Despite being highly anticipated by the fans, the movie failed to descend into the hearts of the audiences and managed to be the biggest box office flop of 2021. The movie only managed to earn a fraction of it’s of 200 Million dollar budget.
Eternals followed the story of super-powered and immortal beings that were tasked with saving the entire galaxy from utter chaos and destruction. Despite a star studded cast and a brilliant story-line, Eternals was not able to live up to the hype and left audiences disappointed. The movie only managed to score a 47% on the Tomato-Meter. Eternal wasn’t able to touch the coveted Billion dollar mark despite high expectations and left MCU fans all over the world disappointed.
3. House of Gucci:
House Of Gucci centers around the shocking true story of the family politics and dramas that surrounded the family members of the Italian Fashion Empire, Gucci. This movie was another vivid example of how even a star studded cast can’t save a movie. House of Gucci only managed to score a 63% on the Tomato-Meter. Despite being highly praised by the critics as the best movie of the year, the movie failed to descend into the hearts of the audiences and certainly failed to win the Best Actress Oscar for Lady Gaga.
4. West Side Story
Steven Spielberg has given nothing but absolute hits like Avatar in the past. However, his recent adaptation of the classical musical has left audiences disappointed. The movie follows the typical story of forbidden love between Tony and Maria that belong to two rival gangs of New-York. Despite a high rating of 92% on the Tomato-Meter, West Side Story only managed to earn half of its total budget of 100 Million dollars, generating a huge deficit of lost income.
5. Chaos Walking:
Chaos Walking was a movie that was highly anticipated by fans of video game adaptations, however it left them quite severely disappointed. The movie follows the story of a young boy who discovers a mysterious girl that crash lands on his planet. All the women living on the planet have long disappeared and together Todd and Voila attempt to solve this mystery.Chaos Walking had a terrible rating of 21% on the Tomato-Meter, and the movie only managed to earn a fraction of its total budget of 100 Million dollars, generating a huge deficit of lost income.
Where Billions of dollars are spent on casting top-rated actors, cinematography and CGI; efforts should also be made to hire story writers and screen players that provide these movies with a solid foundation to work with.
