“Aap Ka Wazir-e-Azam, Aap Kay Saath”
Prime Minister held a session with public yesterday answering their questions in the fifth session of this nature with the name, “Aap Ka Wazir-e-Azam, Aap Kay Saath”. He answered people’s questions and did a discussion on inflation, mafias, mini-budget and opposition.
“It [inflation] is the only problem that keeps me awake at night,” the prime minister said. He explained that it has become a global issue and most of the countries are suffering from it. The major reason being the harm posed to economy by Covid-19. According to him, the situation in the country was not as bad as the rest of the world as Pakistan’s growth rate was 5.37 percent in spite of all these challenges. He also mentioned that he is well aware of the condition of the salaried people that it has become very difficult for them to make the both ends meet.
During the session Imran Khan brought to light the boom in construction and agricultural industry. He informed of a 73 percent increase in the income of the farmers. He said the skilled labour employed by the industries witnessed a 40 percent increase in their income.
He also said that the real battle was against mafias and some media groups who spread gloom and doom stories. Imran Khan admitted the fact that it is the right of media to criticize the government but they must refrain from propaganda and fake news. He said that former dictator Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf committed the “biggest sin” by granting NROs to the opposition. “Half of the taxes we collect are spent on paying back loans taken during their [opposition parties’] governments,” Imran claimed.
While addressing the most controversial topic being highlighted these days i.e. Mini-budget, Imran Khan said the government wanted to document the economy through the mini budget. He also highlighted the number of people currently paying tax. “If only two million people will pay taxes in a country of 200 million…then how will I have money to fix this country,” the prime minister said.
He informed that FBR is reforming its system and that now government will go after those who live a luxurious life and travel in expensive cars but do not pay a single penny as tax. Talking about General Elections he said that tickets will be given to those candidates who make to the merit. He also disclosed his plan of provision of scholarships to students.
While talking about opposition he said; “You will not find a place to hide if I took to the streets…I will just need to nudge people and others will be running to London as well to join the ones who already are there,”
