Emerging from China COVID-19 has proven to be the most devastating occurrence of the 21st century. The only cure of COVID-19, experts, and scientists have figured out so far is the prevention. Here prevention means maintaining proper hygiene, follow social distancing, and wear personal protective equipment if you have to visit any area exposed to the infection. The most important thing about COVID-19 is that the immunity compromised individuals are more prone to the infection. Therefore, it is a serious threat to older people who already suffer from various diseases. The second endangered group of people is children who are mostly careless
about their diet and health.
As mentioned above, prevention is the only cure. It is important to strengthen your immune system and more importantly your kid’s. Here we share some immunity-boosting foods for kids in the following
Almonds are known to be a very healthy addition to our diet. It helps in weight management and maintaining diseases such as diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases. Well, I remember granny had always been so eager for us to eat almonds. Now I know why! A study by Adriana Arena indicates that “almonds especially the skin of almonds is very helpful for the better function of the immune system”. Moreover, the vitamin E and manganese that almonds carry enhance the Natural Killer cell activity of the immune system. You can give almonds to your kids as snacks, in the form of milk smoothie and desserts, etc.
The second wonderful food item known as an immunity booster is the yogurt. The probiotic bacteria found in yogurts such as lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium not only maintain the health of the digestive tract but it has also proven to play roles in fighting the respiratory tract infection. Simple yogurt with 2% milkfat is the best, however, if your kid doesn’t like it that way, you can also add maple syrup to sweeten it or different fruits.
3. Greens (Spinach)
Green leafy vegetables and fruits are very good and equally essential for your kid’s diet. Among these green leafy vegetables, spinach is the most enriched. It contains several vital vitamins such as vitamins A, E, K, and K and minerals like manganese, zinc, selenium, iron, and folate, etc. All of these nutrients have proved to play significant roles in boosting the immune system. Spinach can be eaten with potatoes. Your kids would surely love to take it as spinach nuggets or the perfect green smoothie.
Personally, oats are my favorite cereal. It tastes the best and it contains the beta-glucans that aids in the function of the Natural Killer cells of our immune system. Ground powder of fried oats makes the best drink with raw sugar in summers. You can also make oats pancakes, cookies, blueberry oat breakfast bars, apple cinnamon baked oatmeal cups, etc.
5. Dry fruits and Seeds
Dry fruits and seeds include walnuts, cashews, pistachios, apricots, and dates. All these dry fruits are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber essential for building stronger immunity. These are not only healthy but also make a healthy snack. Moreover, eating dry fruits helps to cope with stress.
